Introduction

This blog is where I will be placing all of my content on artist and busker rights. I have a compilation of case laws, videos of buskers getting harassed by police, city ordinances and artist/busker resources that can help in dealing with police or other forms of law enforcement, and expressing your rights as an artist and a busker.  I am creating this blog as a form of education for buskers, artists, LEO's, Lawyers, City Council Members, Government, and for the Citizens who are unaware of these issues.
This blog will also be accompanied by a series of videos to educate buskers as well. Many of those videos will lead to a section of this blog so that viewers may research an essential piece of information for themselves...

I would like to introduce the blog with the first amendment of the US  Constitution, as it is the main law that protects artists and buskers alike...

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

You might know what artists are but are probably wondering what buskers are...
Buskers are a variety of performances, from art, to music, to dance, to the creation of a variety of hand crafts, for donations, tips or for a specific price, in the street.. Another name for busking would be street performance or street art!

Busking and Art in the streets, sidewalks, parks, and other public spaces is legal and protected by the first amendment but some cities have municipal codes that make busking "illegal". These codes are often found to be unconstitutional, and are challenged. Also people cited for violating these codes usually get their tickets dropped due to the unconstitutionality of the codes.  The more you know as a busker, or an artists about your rights the better chance you have of defending yourself with law enforcement and in a court of law.

In the next few posts I will have links to case files, links to videos, and more information about busking, and buskers rights... Feel free to go over these links, videos and more and learn about your rights as a artist and busker.

If you are a form of government, it would be good of you to learn about these rights as well, as you signed an oath of office to protect said rights. Violation of that oath is a federal crime and could mean your job, and fines of up to 10,000 dollars if you are found guilty in a federal court of law.
